"We envisioned unique handrails for our 1926 Alameda cottage...not the usual simple handrail nor a trendy cable railing. Ideally, a hand forged railing that would run alongside a set of rock stairs that lead to our guest suite as well as one to flank the slate tile stairs to our front porch. We set about searching for local craftspersons online. Andrew responded and promptly came and met with us and listened to our ideas. He came back with thoughtful designs for two railings that complimented, but were not duplicative of, each other. Andrew even designed the railing to the guest suite to accomodate a LED light strip so our guests will be safe as they come and go after dark. During the fabrication process, Andrew shared images of the railing details for our input..."thumbs up!" He mocked up a Revit file format drawing of our steel wall project, adhered to the schedule for completion, and delivered a beautiful finished product that is engineered to last for decades. Given that the other metal fabrication shops that I have worked with in the past have been difficult to deal with, surly, uninterested in participating in the design process, unwilling to provide bids and generally just annoying, Portland Ironworks is a massive breath of fresh air.
